ALL ON SUSTENANCE?
Prospects for Auckland’s Unemployed.
Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, This Dav
The opinion that some time this winter all relief men would be on sustenance, was expressed to-day by members of the Metropolitan Relief Committee.
Mr F. M. Waters, who is chairman of the Manukau County Council, said that local bodies were finding it more and more difficult to provide work. They had not the funds to continue the present system.
The secretary of the committee said he was pestered all day by men wanting work. They haunted his office asking for work and they did not want sustenance.
A member: The position is not as bad as last year. The secretary: Indeed it is.
The Mayor of Devonport said he agreed with Mr Waters. This winter would see all relief men on sustenance.
