SOUTH ISLAND PORTS.

Campaign to Attract Tourist Traffic. The opinion that no further time should be wasted in launching the publicity campaign with a view to attracting tourists and tourist ships to the resorts of the South Island was expressed at this morning’s meeting of the Lyttelton Harbour Board by the secretary, Mr C. H. Clibborn, when he reported on his visit to the West Coast in company with representatives of the Railway Department. The Harbour Board has taken a keen interest in the promotion of further tourist traffic to the South Island ports, and in adopting the secretary’s report it was decided to approach the Christchurch City Council immediately to enlist the aid of that body, and also to approach Akaroa, Kaikoura and Hanmer interests.

In response to a request from the Tasmanian Publicity Officer (Mr J. M. Fisher) it was decided to support his request to have Hobart included on the forthcoming schedule of the Union Company’s boat Marama, which at present takes in Lyttelton, Dunedin, Bluff and Melbourne.
