WINTER SPORTS.

Excellent Facilities at Mt Cook. A CHEAP HOLIDAY. Well-known alpinists from Great Britain, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, Austria and other countries have declared that Nature provides snowfields in the Mount Cook region which the world at large may well envy. Happily, Nature has been helped by man to offer the best scope for thrills in an alpine wonderland. This truth has been well recognised by increasing numbers of New Zealanders and visitors from overseas. Each season sees notable additions to the number of people who find much healthful exercise at Mount Cook, and each season brings also a further improvement in the arrangements to assure happy days and nights for all visitors. Experts of the Mount Cook Ski School quickly teach novices to speed over the snow. And now, during the winter months, at the height of the season, low’ combined rail and motor fares are offered, the journey being made by train to Timaru and by bus to the Hermitage. At the Hermitage, well known for its hospitality and comfort, reduced charges are operating. Further reductions are made for stays of seven days or more, and special concessions are also ma<Je for parties. Skating and ski-ing carnivals have been arranged for June, July, August and September.
