BIG ROAD RACE.
Timaru to Christchurch Proposed. MAIREHAU CLUB ACTIVE. A proposal to revive the Timaru to Christchurch road race has been made by the MairiTiau Cycling Club, and it is going ahead with arrangements to hold the event on September 21, a fortnight before the Waimate-Christchurch race, which is being organised by the Canterbury Centre of the New Zealand Athletic and Cycling Union. A meeting of trade firms interested in cycling will be called this week to discuss the race, and a further meeting of all persons interested will be held on June 10. A meeting will also be held in Timaru to organise and make arrangements for that end of the race. Mrs W. J. Walter, who has been prominent in the control of many of the big road races held by the Canterbury Centre, has been asked to accept the position of organiser for this event. It is also planned to hold the 30-mile New Zealand novice championship on the day of the Timaru race. This will be held over a course from Dunsandel to Christchurch, and will finish ahead of the big race.
