MURDER CHARGE.
Innocence of Accused Man Claimed. ADDRESS TO JURY. Per Press Association. NAPIER, This Day. The trial of Charles Edward Price, charged with the murder of Evelyn Mary Madden, was resumed to-dav. In addressing the jury on beha’lf of the prisoner, Mr Averill said that Price had done all he could as an innocent man. lie had gone into the witnessbox and told his story. According to many witnesses, the accused had a kindly disposition, and was, therefore, not a person to commit murder. Dealing with the alleged weapon, Mr A* enll said that the furtherest the Crown would go was to say that the piece of wood was the probable instriirncnt, but counsel contended that, if the jury found that death was not caused by the wood, the accused must be innocent.
