JUBILEE CELEBRATED.

Trinity Congregational Church. Sixty years of religious work in this city was celebrated at Trinity Congregational Church yesterday, on the occasion of the diamond jubilee of the church’s foundation. The Rev Harry Johnson, Moderator of the church in N’ew Zealand, who was minister of Trinity in the years from 1913 to 1918. was present and in the morning preached the jubilee sermon to a large congregation. In the afternoon he and the Rev D. Gardner Miller led a youth meeting, and in the evening Mr Miller was the preacher, his sermon being on the subject "Where are we going?” The word jubilee meant literally "emancipation.” said Mr Johnson, and thus he urged the present celebration as a time for great rejoicing. Referring briefly to the early days of the work he spoke of the pioneers with their great faith, and the manner in which they had launched out on a venture ol j which they did not know the end. They I had slender means, and their way to j church was along ill-made roads lighted j by kerosene and candle lanterns. Since ! those days there had been great advances both in the church and the i city.
