Mr F. Macfarlane (Wellington) is staying at Warner’s Hotel. Mr J. G. Young (Palmerston North) is staying at the Clarendon Hotel.
Dr T. L. Paget was a passenger from the north this morning. Mr S. Clifton Bingham was a passenger on the inter-island steamer this morning.
Messrs W. G. Macindoe (Auckland) and H. Swan (Wellington) are staying at the United Service Hotel.
Mr H. E. Dunlop will leave Christchurch to-morrow evening for Wellington to - connect with the Ormonde for England. Mr William Scott, of the Employers’ Federation, who has been visiting Christchurch, has returned to Wellington.
Mr S. J. Wearn, South Island manager of the Goldberg Advertising Agency', Ltd., left this morning on a business trip to Dunedin and Invercargill.
Mr J. A. Marriott, who for the past three y'ears has been stores clerk at the Public Works camp, Falls Dam, Central Otago, has been transferred to the Christchurch offices of the department.
Messrs J. L. Stewart (Auckland), G. W. Armitage (Sherwood Downs), C. L. Crombie (Invercargill), John Brown (Ashburton), IT. Bignall (Grey r mouth), and W. W. Duff (Wellington) are staying at the Federal Hotel. Colonel S. C. P. Nicholls, officer commanding the Southern Command, returned from the north this morning. Mr C. A. Cooper, Government nominee on the Christchurch Fire Board, has resigned, and at last night’s meeting of the board he was farewelled by the chairman (Mr T. M. Charters), on whose motion the board recorded its appreciation of the services of Mr Cooper.
Congratulations to the three City Councils members of the Fire Board, Messrs E. H. Andrews, E. Parlane and T H. Butterfield, on their success at the recent, municipal elections, were extended by the chairman (Mr T. M. Charters) at last night’s meeting of the board. “Mr Parlape’s vote exceeded that of the Rev J. K. Archer—a particularly noteworthy feat,” said Mr Charters, amid laughter. Mr C. Jinarajadasa, M.A. (Cantab.) is to speak on “The Empire, India, and World Federation for Peace,” on Sunday evening next, at 7.30 in the Civic Theatre, under the auspices of the Theosophical Society. .Splendidly cultured, and with an intimate personal knowledge of the peoples - of the world, there are few more excellently equipped to deal constructively with a subject which at the present time is definitely one of the first importance. A cordial invitation to be present is extended to all interested.
