Air Mail from England.
(Special to the “ Star.*') AUCKLAND. May 14. jyjTANY AUCKLANDERS, and no doubt people in other parts of New Zealand, have discovered that receiving correspondence brought by air mail from England may be expensive. Several people who had letters fofwarded to them from England by the recent mail received a shock when their correspondence, owing to insufficient postage, was taxed up to as much as £2. One Aucklander who received a letter bearing postage to the value of 2s 3d, was called upon to pay an additional 10s 6d. The explanation offered by the postal authorities is that the senders of the correspondence in England had attached postage at the old Karachi rate, which had been considerably increased with- the inauguration of the new Singapore to Australia service. All the correspondence which had been heavily taxed had not been accepted, 3s persons had the right of refusing to take delivery and many had use of that right.
