N.Z. Trade Agreement With Canada. ARRANGEMENT APPROVED. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON. May 14. It was announced by the Hon Adam Hamilton. acting-Minister of Finance, to'-day, that by mutual agreement between the Governments of Canada and Xew Zealand, it had been decided that the existing trade agreement between the two countries is to be extended for a further period of six months from and inclusive of May 24. and the necessary notification will be given in the Xew Zealand Gazette. The agreement was originally brought into operation on May 24. 1932, and was to remain in force for a period of one year, but it has from time to time been extended, and unless action were now taken, it would expire on May 23 It was expected that the new agreement would have been entered into after the recent revision of the Xew Zealand Customs tariff. btit the domestic affairs of both countries have not permitted this to be carried out. It is the desire of both Governments that the new agreement should be concluded as early as possible, and no doubt this will be effected as soon as circumstances permit. Under the existing agreement, the value of the New Zealand products exported to Canada has been: 1931, £222.912: 1932, £208,315; 1933. £433.861; 1934, £554.931. During the same periods the value in sterling of Canadian goods imported into Xew Zealand was £1.224.569, £1,007.096. £1,012,213 and £1,677,764.
