RACING NOTES.

DOMINATIONS for the Dunedin M Jockey Club’s meeting on June 1, 3 and 4 close at 5 p.m. to-day. * * * * Handicaps for the South Canterbury Jockey Club’s meeting are due on Friday. Winners at Ashburton, if engaged at Washdyke, are liable to be re-handicapped. FORM WAS WRONG. Scratchmere Scar, who won the Welter at Randwick on Saturday, failed badly at his only other start in Sydney, which was at Warwick Farm on May 4. He was sent out favourite for the Royal Stakes. With M. McCarten in the saddle, he was well placed halfway, but thence onward drifted badly and finished in the rear bunch. The reversal of form was too much for some of the crowd at Randwick, and his win was badly received. WIN IN SIGHT. The Auckland-owned three-year-old Gallant Knight appears to have registered a very creditable performance when he finished second to Boonjee in the Three and Four-year-old Handicap at Ascot, Sydney, on Wednesday. Gallant Knight, owned by Mr E. Montgomery, is a chestnut gelding by Gay Shield from Sibford, hence a half-bro-ther to Awarere. He is trained by W. Townsend, and was taken to Sydney in company with Silver Jubilee, who has won two races at Randwick. ASHBURTON FIELDS. Acceptances for the Ashburton County Racing Club’s meeting on Saturday give promise of interesting racing. Very large fields are available for the two trotting events. CARRYING ON/ Although it was announced that j Korokio was to be retired without further racing, her preparation has been persevered with, and advices from Wanganui are to the effect that M. Gardiner has her in great shape. She is a candidate for the Empire Handicap, to be run at Wanganui to-morrow. ( HANGE OF STABLES. Coll and Universe have had a change of stables, having left the care of D. O’Connor and gone into the charge of F. Christmas. Both carry the colours of Mr P. Galligan. SUCCESSFUL SALE. The dispersal sale of Mr W. R. Kem- i ball’s stud at Masterton was made necessary by the expiration of the lease ot the farm property. Seventeen lots (.hanged hands at an average of nearly 110 guineas—quite a good result in these days. An impression has been created that ' Mr Kemball is going out of racing, but such is not the case. He has retained sixteen foals from his mares, and they j will in due course come down to Trentham. The two two-vear-olds. Royal j Legion (Chief Ruler—Drama) and j Bachelor Song (Hunting Song—Bach- j elor’s Picture), which were passed in at the sale, have been sent down to W. j McConkev at Trentham, and Orby's ’ Last has been turned out. IN WORK AGAIN Tunneller is again an active member j <.f the team of Mrs J. Ca«npbell after j a good spell. P. Y. Mason has Hostis ■ and Variant again in commission after \ a few weeks’ holiday. ' TO RACE IN NORTH ISLAND. H. Rama has decided not to take Toolev Street on his northern trip, so his team for Te Kuiti and Ellerslie will comprise only Hojowhenua and Free Air. RASOULI FOR ELLERSLIE Although the entry of Rasouli for the Great Northern Hurdle race was made too late to be accepted, he is apparently likely to make the trip to Ellerslie. as he has been nominaed for the minor jumping events at the meeting. SOLD TO AUSTRALIA. Whirlette, the two-year-old daughter <>( Whirlwind and Pellet, thus a halfsister to Croupier, has been sold by her owner. Mr Norman Wade, to a West Australian sportsman, and she is to be shipped this week. Whirlette, who is a member of E. Pope’s team shaped very encouragingly in her only start at the Pukekohe meeting, and she possesses plenty of speed. FOR NEXT SEASON Four yearlings at Woodville are undergoing their early education. 11. E Russell has two colts by Lackham from Signal March and Lucrctia respectively. F. Davis’s two are a filly by Gainscourt from Marion’s Birthday, owned by Mr T. 11. Lowry, and a colt by Gascony from Orozino, which Davis purchased at the January sales. NORTHERN JUMPERS

Full Measure and Ganpat are jumprs who have lately been along very satisfactorily in their work at Takanini, says the “ New Zealand Ilerald.” Full Measure is a very capable hurdler when fit and would probably have a much better record than he possesses only for the fact that he has on a couple of occasions been kept out of action for fairly long periods owing to injuries. TEAM FOR AUSTRALIA S. G. Ware will take four horses when he leaves on June 6 for Australia. His own four-year-old gelding, Palatinate, will be one of the quartet and the ..thers will be two-year-olds belonging to Mr G. J. Barton. These are Desert i hief, by Chief Ruler —Pure Gold: Gay ircle, by Gay Shield—Nucleus; and Tack Horner, by Captain Bunsbv—- ( herry Pie. TAURAMAI'S PRICE. After the Dunedin Cup meeting i'auramai could have been purchased for 2000 guineas. Now the price is 2.100 guineas. In other words, his jwner, Mr A. C. Mills, does not wish to sell this good three-year-old. ARBIXE’S GRANDSON. The death has occurred at the Langi Stud at Echuca (Victoria) of the Wallace horse Patrobas, who won the Victoria Derby and Melbourne Cup of 1915 and the Y.R.C. St Leger of 101 G. lie carried the colours of a lady owner Mrs E. A. Widdis, who thus became the only woman to win the Melbourne Cup. Patrobas was aged 23 years when he died.
