Gatherings Held in Town and Country. CHILDREN’S PARTY. Children of all sizes, from babies ij to H lO65 ® sch °ol age, thronged the Alexandra Hall yesterday afternoon when a children’s party to celebrate the j ubi,ee * organised by Mr Reg Stillwell, was held. The party, which was primarily for the children Ot unemployed men, was a pronounced success. The small folk thoroughly enioffa themselves The hall was decorated with red, white and blue streamers. the dominating feature being a Huge silver archway, on each side of winch were placed pictures of the King and Queen. During the afternoon, the Mayor (Mr D. G. Sullivan) delivered a brief address to the children. Dances were glv.en by Miss Tui Naylor and Miss son 1 * 110 an< * hiusic by Mr S. JackParty at Belfast. A farewell social was tendered to Mr a l ul „ ,} v - B. Guthrie in the Orange Hall, Belfast, on Monday evening 'by the Waimairi branch of the Farmers’ Union and the Belfast branch of the Women s Division of the Farmers’ Union. Mr and Mrs Guthrie and their two sons are leaving the district to reside in. the North Island. Cards and dancing were enjoyed, the winners at cards being Mrs Quaid and Mr Sidney Watson, jun. Mr S. G. Farquhar president of the Belfast branch of the Farmers’ Union, extended a welcome to the guests, and Mr R. W. Hawke, M.P., also spoke. Mrs E. Harris, president of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union, presented Mrs Guthrie with a handbag. Mrs Guthrie was the first secretary of the Belfast branch of the W.D.F.IJ., and prior to her resigning, held office as president for some considerable time. Mr S. G. Farquhar, on behalf of the members of the local branch of the Farmers’ Union, asked Mr Guthrie to accept a suit case and an attache case. Mr Guthrie had been a staunch member of the union since its inception. Miss Jean McMillan played for the dancing and Mr E. C. Meyers was M.C.
