STAFF DANCE
Amusing Decorations at Winter Garden. CALDER MACKAY CO., LTD. Of the many staff dances held in Christchurch during the season that of Calder Mackay Company Limited is always one of the largest. This year’s ball, held last evening at the Winter Garden, like its predecessors, received a full measure of support from the staff. It was evident, too, that much careful preparation had been made by the dance committee members, who included Misses Betty Hurrell, Clare Taylor, Messrs Keith Evans, Sidney Corner. Leonard Corner (secretary), and Raymond Piper (treasurer). The appearance of the Winter Garden suggested a furniture store in the process of a bargain sale. The furniture was all prominently ticketed, “so much down, so much weekly,” and caricatures of the store personalities placarded the walls above the alcoves. Additional amusement was provided for the guests in the form of a clever eccentric dance given by Mr R. Tonge and partner. Specially invited guests included Mr W. G. V. Fernie,. Christchurch manager, and Mr and Mrs Vesey Hamilton. Mrs Hamilton, who wore a graceful claret-red satin frock and gold lame coatee, was presented with a lovely bouquet of abutilons, narcissi and chrysanthemums in gold and bronze shadings. Misses Hurrell and Taylor were also given bouquets. Miss Hurrell’s was made of pink flowers, to match her frock of fondant pink velvet with collar and belt stitched in silver. Miss Taylor wore a sapphire blue velvet frock, the slit sleeves outlined in silver lame pleating. Her bouquet was of lemon chrysanthemums and bronze abutilons. Mr Ray Piper’s orchestra supplied the music. _ T, he ,L e were present: Mesdames L. B. Salkeld, O. r. Dickson, Ray Murphy, J. 'v. Baty. Cyril Goodman, W. L. Harrison, w. Watkins, N. Campbell, G.
