St Stephen’s Parish Annual Meeting. VESTRY ELECTED. (Special to the “ Star.”) ASHBURTON, May 14. There was a good attendance at the annual meeting of parishioners of St Stephen’s Anglican Church last evening. ’The vicar (the Yen Archdeacon A. J. Petrie) presided. The annual report stated that the past year had mot been one of particular progress, except toward the close, when activities developed in connection with a new parish hall and a new church at Fairton. Unfortunatelj', the service at Dromore had to be discontinued. Mr H. Paterson replaced Mr L. A. Arnst as superintendent of the Hampstead Sunday School. The churchwardens (Messrs E. C. Bathurst and L. A. Charles) reported that there was a considerable improvement in the finances of the church during the year, which opened with a debit balance of £lO7 11s, and closed with a debit of £46, an improvement of £6l 11s. “A move has been made to erect a new church at Fairton,” stated the report. “Approximately £IOO hiore is required to erect and furnish the church. This fund now amounts to £246 18s 4d.” The following Vestry was elected:— Messrs W. P. Childs, T. F. Smith, H. G. Paterson, R. H. Biggar, A. Prentice, F. W. Curtis, R. L. Stephenson, \V. 11. Amos, J. Cook and Dr N. E. IT. Fulton. Mr A. Bushell was re-ap-pointed auditor, Messrs J. Cook and J. Hawke, parishioners’ representatives on the Youth Rally Committee, and the following committee was set up to arrange for a parish social:—Mesdames F. Curtis. R. L. Stephenson, M. C. Knox, F. M. Mahoney, A. M. Meredith, R. 11. Biggar and Miss I. Easterbrook. Cyclist Injured. Suffering from concussion, a fractured right shoulder and a scalp wound, an elderly man, Mr E. W. Easterbrook, of Cameron Street, Ashburton, was admitted to the Ashburton County Hospital this evening. At a late hour his condition was reported to have im-
proved. Mr Easterbrook was cycling towards Ashburton when a collision occurred with a car driven by Mr Smith, of Wai-iti Road, Timaru. The cyclist and the car were travelling in the same direction. Election Count. The result of the official count of the votes recorded in the election of candidates on the Ashburton Power Board (country members) and the Lyttelton Harbour Board were announced today by the Returning Officer (Mr G. Kelly). There was no change in the positions, the final figures being:— Power Board—H. Morris 905, J. Lambie 862, J. W. M. Dart 860, J. Carr SOS, H. J Crothers 786, W. 11. Gallagher 763, R. J. Mulligan 754, H. C. Barton 733 (elected) : S. P. Taylor 497. R. W. Wightman 442. Lyttelton Harbour Board—J. W. Bowden 1576, W. G. Gallagher 1553 (elected); R. W. Wightman 749. Hockey Sub-Association. At a meeting of the Mid-Canterbury Men's Hockey Sub-Association last evening it was decided to play the abandoned senior match Ashburton v. Baring Square at 145 p.m. on Saturday and follow with trial matches in view of the representative fixtures against the Malvern Sub-union on Saturday week. It was reported that the Malvern fixtures could be played at Darfield. Mr E. M. Gabites was appointed selector in the temporary absence of Mr S. W. Gower.
