HURRY ON.

Sire of Hunting Song and Lord Warden. STOCK HAVE WON £300,000. In London “ Sporting Life ” last month, the “ Special Commissioner ” remarked that the extraordinarv success of Blandford’s stock is no doubt responsible for the fact that the great part played by Hurry On and his sons in the turf history of the world is being forgotten lay most of our breeders. On the side of his sire, Marcovil, Hurry On goes back to Matchem, and in tail-female he descends from Duty, ia member of the No. 2 family, that was by Rifleman out of an unnamed mare that was also responsible for Bay Malton. Duty never ran, but as a matron she became the dam of Miss Dayrell (£1455). who in turn produced Ramsburv £4670), Faith (£1149). Miss Stockwell (£970), Tribxite (£2349). As the result of a mating with Stoclcwell’s son. Thunderbolt, she foaled Meteor, who ran four times without success, and later on bred Hurry On’s grand-dam. Star, for her owner Prince Soltykoff. Star, who was by Thurio, ran in good company but earned only two brackets in 22 outings during four seasons. She was twice second to Memoir and once to St Serf as a three-year-old. After her rigorous racing career Star was not of much use as a matron, and was sold with a foal at foot to Mr de Wend-Fenton for 80 guineas. This foal eventually proved to be Hurry On’s dam, Toute Suite. A year later she became the property of Mr Murland at 105 guineas, and for him bred four moderate foals. To Marcovil, however, she became the dam of Hurry On, who was sold to Lord Woolavington—then Mr Tames Buchanan—at the Second July Sales of 1914 for 500 guineas. Big and Clumsy. Unlike Toute Suite, who stood barely 14.2 hands high. Hurry On was a big, lumbering, clumsy horse that could never be trained as a two-year-old. He came to hand in his second season and .won the Beacon Stakes, Stetchworth Plate, Newbury Stakes, September Stakes, Newmarket St Leger and the Jockey Club Cup, carrying stakes of £3248. An unbeaten horse. Hurry On retired to the stud, and since his first crop of two-year-olds appeared in 1921, he has been responsible for the winners of 327 races worth nearly £300,000. His stock include the victors in three Derby, one St Leger, two One Thousand Guineas, and Two Oaks. World-wide Influence. His sons, as sires of winners, have made good names in almost every part of the world.

Town Guard has earned a high reputation in France; Hunting Song headed the list of winning sires last season in New Zealand; Roger de Busli is doing well in Australia; and Sereth occupies sixth place among the sires of winners in South Africa.

In England, Coronach, winner of £48,224 in stakes, commands a fee of 3UO guineas and is regarded as only just reaching his prime as a sire. Hurry On. himself, is standing at 148 guineas. Although now in his 22nd year, he is stated to be as’virile as ever. ON A SOFT TRACK. Amberley Candidates Work at Riecarton. Riecarton was still displaying plenty of evidence this morning of the recent rain. The No. 6 grass, which was available for fast work, was heavy and the crossings required very cautious negotiation by those who ventured on them. Panegyric and Taillight ran three furlongs in 40 3-ssec. The last three furlongs of their work occupied Eleanor and Red Dance 40 2-ssec. Royal Gallant and Riptide covered six furlongs in lmin 23sec. Glowlight got over a mile in lmin 50 2-ssec. Coalpit and The Surgeon ran half a mile in 52sec. Another good effort was that of Rebel Chief who, in beating Tooley Street badly over half a mile, registered 50 2-ssec. Joyous and Lady Zephyr ran half a mile along the back in 52 2-ssec. Cyclonic and Sam Smith were lmin 7sec over five furlongs. Dr Duthie took 53 3-ssec to run half a mile. Grand Review did six furlongs in lmin 2lsec. Battle Queen ran half a mile in 53sec Fiord and Polygraph got over half a mile in 51sec. Gold Label was well clear of Colombo at the end of five furlongs run in lmin 4 3-ssec. Dover Patrol beat Knowledge over five furlongs in lmin 7 2-ssec. Capital, after running his first three furlongs in 37sec was easing up towards the finish of six furlongs, completed in lmin 19sec. Universe and Matron galloped three furlongs in 39 l-ssec.
