Big Increase in Licenses Issued. Per Press Association, WELLINGTON, This Day. The increasing popularity of radio is shown by the number of licenses issued for the current year. The total of radio licenses taken out as at March 31 was 154,923, including 152,489 receiving licenses, the latter figure showing an increase in twelve months of 34,705. The increase in the same class of licenses for the previous year w r as 24,573. The number of licenses, with the increases in parentheses, are; Auckland. 46.638 (11,712); Canterbury, 27.792 (6823) ; Otago. 20.964 (5351) ; Wellington, 57,095 (10,819). In addition to listeners’ licenses there are 1214 dealers’ licenses, 873 granted to experimental amateurs, three for experimental research, 319 free to blind persons and institutions, and 25 broadcasting licenses.
