INTERESTING POINT.
Is Legislative Council Non-Party? (Special to the “ Star.”) WELLINGTON, April 19. Publication of the fact that a committee of legislators including four from the Legislative Council, has taken in hand preparations for the co-aing general election on behalf of the Coalition has produced some public comment, suggesting that there is no party in the Upper House. It is an*interesting point, and to the casual observer there may be justification for suggesting that the “Lords” do not display organised divergence. There is no Leader of the Opposition in that chamber, but it is too much to hope that its members, nearly all graduates from the House •of Representatives, could forget their party views. The most definite example of party in that branch of the legislature is provided by two members who regard themselves so thoroughly as official Labour oppositionists that they attend the caucus gatherings of that party. They are the Hon Mark Fagan and the lion T. O’Byrne.
