Reduced Buying on German Account. LONDON SALES. (Received March 19, 12.50 p.m.) LONDON, March 18. At the wool sales 8357 bales were offered, including 1465 New Zealand and 2782 Australian. Approximately 3671 New Zealand and Australian bales were sold. Steady rates prevailed. A considerable proportion of South American offerings were withdrawn owing to the reduced demand, especially on German account. New Zealand lots sold as follows: — Greasy cross-bred, Tawhero (top price 73d), average 63d. At Bradford merino tops are very firrh, but cross-breds are neglected. Merchants’ Cables. The following cable advice has been received in Christchurch:— National Mortgage and Agency. “ The auctions show a recovery on the opening rates of id to id per lb for merino, but the market has developed a weaker tone since the opening of id to id per lb for greasy crossbreds, and slipe wools generally. The Home trade are the principal buyers, while the Continent remains quiet. The following prices are current:—Merino super, llid to 12id; merino average, 9id to 10id; fine half-breds, 56/58, lOid to lid; fine half-breds, average, 9id to lOid; medium half-breds, 50/56, Bid to 9d; medium half-breds, average, 7id to Bid; coarse half-breds, 48/50, 6id to 7d; coarse half-breds, average, 6id to 63d; fine cross-breds, 46/48, 6d to 6id; fine cross-breds, average, 53d to 6id; medium cross-breds, 44/46, sid to 6d; medium cross-breds, average, 5d to 6d; coarse cross-breds, 40/44, sid to 53d; coarse cross-breds, average, 5d to sid; low cross-breds, 36/40, 5d to sid; low cross-breds, average, 43d to sid; pieces, 4id; bellies, 3id to 4d; locks, 3d to 3id. WEIGHT OF POTATO SACKS. Sacks of potatoes which pass over the Lyttelton wharf must not exceed 1801 b this season. Last year the Lyttelton watersiders complained of excessive weight of the sacks and threatened not'to handle them unless some standard were established. A temporary agreement was arrived at\whereby the sacks should not exceed 2001 b in weight, and farmers were advised accordingly. This year the arrangement is for sacks not exceeding 1801 bin weight. FOWL WHEAT SALES. The response to the Wheat Purchase Board’s offer of last season’s milling wheat at 4s 4d a bushel, f.0.b., sacks extra, has not been great. Just over 2000 sacks have been forwarded to North Island buyers since the board made its offer on February 26. The offer is provisional on the wheat being used for the feeding of poultry. GRAIN AND PRODUCE. The grain and produce markets are . still quiet. Fowl wheat remains firm. Partridge peas have had sales at 5a 1 Qd, and in cases a little more. The cocksfoot market is quiet and most of the offering has been cleaned up. Prices, it anything, are a little easier at from 9id to lid. Ryegrass is quoted at from 2s 9d to 3s, with extra good lines up to 3s 3d. Onions have risen sharply, owing to there being less supplies than anticipated and owing to farmers keeping off the market. Quotations are from £9 to £9 10s a ton, and in odd cases up to £lO has been paid. Several inquiries have come from the North Island for seed potatoes, and for prompt deliveries of tables, but the sample consignments sent, forward are not fully ripe. Following are prices quoted to be paid to farmers on trucks at. country stations, sacks extra unless otherwise ment ioned:— Milling Wheat (new season’s)—March delivery. Tuscan 4s, Hunters 4s 2d, Pearl and Velvet 4s 4d f.o.b. Fowl Wheat—3s 9d to 3s lOd. Oats—Cartons, 2s to 2s sd: Algerians, 2s to 2s 4d; Duns, Is lOd to 2s 6d, according to quality. Chaff—£3 to £3 ss. Barley—2s 6d to 3s 6d, according to quality. Partridge Peas—ss 3d to os lOd. Linseed—£l3 to £l3 10s a ton. Cocksfoot-—Akaroa, 9Jd to lid. Ryegrass—Perennial. Italian and Western Wolths, 2s 9d to 3s 3d. Clovers—White, 6d to 9d; red, 9d to lid. Potatoes (April, May, June delivery) —£4 to £4 ss. Prompt, £4 10s. Onions—Prompt, £9 to £9 10s a ton. Values for fat sheep at the Tinwald stock sales to-day showed a decline <>f about 2s a head, compared with the Ashburton sale last week. There was a fair entry, but the yards were in an extremely bad condition after the heavy rain, and the attendance was smaller than usual. J. Moore (Ruapuna) topped the fat ewe section up to noon with a pen of five at 16s, the next best price of 15s lOd going to S. P. Taylor (KifTelton) for a pen of seven. Prices for the other pens of ewes ranged from 11s 10d to 15s 7d. J. Jfioore (Ruapuna) sold one wether at 235, the only other pen offered realising ISs 4d. Only a few lambs were forward, the top price of 23s 4d going to L. Grice (Tinwald) foxone. Prices for the other pens ranged from 16s 4d to 17s lOd. In a small entry of cattle one dairy cow realised £3 15s, one fat cow £5 5s and two store cows 10s and 5s respectively REAL ESTATE. N. T-T. M’Crostie and Co., auctioneers, , 217, Manchester Street, report having i sold, on account of Mrs E. M. Roy, her property in Campbell Street, Sumner, comprising bungalow of two rooms and kitchenette and section of 20 perches to Mr Stace. 6 Messrs Ford and Hadfield, Ltd., real estate agents and auctioneers. 131-133, Worcester Street, Christchurch, report having sold, on account of Mr Cameron, his new bungalow in Frank Street, Pananui, to Mr Hay. 6
