PAINTERS BUSY.
Long-postponed Work Being
Done.
That painters are enjoying a period of increased business is indicated by the fact that within one hundred yards in Antigua Street, five houses are being repainted.
Painters stated this morning that business was certainly picking up. People who had postponed the painting of their houses for years were having the work done. Some of the houses had not been painted for ten years, and it took a great deal of work to produce a good finish. With these houses, it was also found that a considerable amount of repair work was necessary.
One painter and paperhanger said that he was particularly busy, and he had numerous inquiries daily. He had noticed that people were not looking for cheap prices. They had evidently learnt their l esson, and realised that if they wanted the work done properly, they had to pay for it. He was doing a great deal of interior decorating also. With more money to spend, people had bought modern furniture, and were now having the rooms modernised also.
