THE COMPETITIONS.
Entries Will Close on Thursday. The managing secretary of the Christchurch Competitions Society (Mr T. F. Hall) notifies in this issue that entries for the instrumental and vocal musical items, elocution, dancing, etc., close on Thursday of this week. Judging from present entries, inquiries and requests for the schedules, this year’s festival will be even more successful than its predecessors. The class for one-act plays, instituted last year, is encouraging Christchurch amateurs to put in solid practice, realising that, the judge’s comments will have an important bearing upon future productions. Harris) and a hymn (own selection). In the class for choirs from 16 to 26 voices, the anthem will be “ Strength and Stav ” < Sullivan), and a hvmn (own selection).
