CHARGE OF RECEIVING.
Young Man Enters Plea of Guilty. Thomas Edward Reeve, a labourer, nineteen years of age, of Roseberrv Street, plea :~d guilty in the Police Court this morning to a charge of receiving a gold watch, valued at £5, knowing that it had been dishonestly obtained. He was remanded until Friday in order that the police might check up on a wristlet watch he had in his possession when arrested. The Magistrate was Mr E. D. Mosley. Chief-Detective Dunlop conducted the case for the police and Mr Russell appeared for the accused. Chief-Detective Dunlop said that the theft was committed by another boy, who had given the watch to accused. Reeve then sold the case to a jeweller and retained the works. He admitted selling the case, using a different name. Later he told the boy from whom he had secured the watch to sell that he had lost it. Mr Russell declared that the accused had told the police that the boy who committed the theft had given him the watch in payment of a debt of ss. Counsel added that Reeve was a member of the Territorials and that was something to be said in his favour these days when so many young men lounged round the streets. The chief-detective remarked that when arrested the accused had in his posession a heavy gold signet ring and a wristlet watch. He would ask for a remand in order that the police might check up on the watch. The accused was remanded in custody until Friday and the Probation Officer was asked to make a report. _
