New X-ray Plant for Hospital. (Special to the “ Star.”) ASHBURTON, March 11. The monthly meeting of the Ashburton Hospital Board was held to-day, there being present: Messrs W. G. Gallagher (chairman), G. S. Hardy, F. Frampton, W. Bryant, W. 11. Wilkinson, C. A. Campion and R. Oakley. On the recommendation of the Medical Superintendent (Dr A. J. Mason), it was agreed to place £7OO on the estimates for the coming year for the replacement of the X-ray plant at the hospital. It was stated that the present plant was twelve years old. It was agreed to thank Mrs J. M’Elhinney for the donation of a croquet mallet for the use of patients at the Waipiata Sanatorium. It was reported that the amount expended on charitable relief during the past month was £53. Unemployment. There are 195 men on the unemployment register at Ashburton this week for work under the No. 5 scheme. The number who will receive sustenance payment is 138. Women’s Division. The Mid-Canterbury provincial executive of the Women’s Division of the banners’ Union, which has already made gifts lor the use of women patients in the Chalmers sunroom of the Ashburton County Hospital, has made a further gift of three chairs. A vote of thanks was accorded the executive at a meeting of the Hospital Board to-day. Personal. Sister E. Bush has been appointed a temporary sister at the Ashburton Public Hospital to relieve Sister V. E. Dearsley, who is at present at the Christchurch Hospital for training. Mrs W. H. Robinson, Ashburton (president of the South Canterbury district of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union), Mrs J. W. Tinker and Miss A. Watson (Ashburton branch) will attend the annual Dominion con- \ ention of the union in Dunedin this week.
