OBJECTIONS RAISED.

Appointment of Inspector at Lyttelton. When the General Purposes Committee’s report came up before the Lyttelton Borough Council last evening, Councillor A. G. Sinclair moved that the report be adopted with the exception of the clause recommending the appointment of a borough inspector. Councillor Sinclair said that it had been distinctly stated that no canvass of councillors would be allowed. He contended that he had not been the only councillor canvassed and the canvass should disqualify the appointment recommended, as it was unfair to the other applicants who had adhered to the request of the council. Councillor D. E. L. Collett seconded the motion. It was decided to hold a special meeting of the council on March 18. The Mayor said that the vacancy had to be filled by April 1. and the appointment should be made as promptly as possible.
