British and Foreign Fleets Compared. JAPAN’S SUBMARINES. (Received March 6. 2.30 p.m.) LONDON, March 5. The annual blue book of the British and foreign fleets gives particulars of post-war cruisers, destroyers and submarines, built or building. The totals are as follows: Britain —32 cruisers, 67 destroyers, 37 submarines. United States—37 cruisers, 46 destroyers, 26 submarines Japan —32 cruisers, 93 destroyers, 64 submarines. France —so cruisers, 32 destroyers, 80 submarines. Italy —l9 cruisers, 55 destroyers, 56 submarines. Germany is credited with five pocket battleships, six cruisers and 16 destroyers. The report gives no support to the rumour that Germany is secretly building submarines. Japan’s submarines are largely Vessels of 1630 to 1950 tons, indicating that they are intended for long-range cruising.
