British Train Sets New Record. British Official Wirelesa. (Received March 6, 1.30 p.m.) RUGBY, March 5. A London-North-Eastem special train travelled from Kings Cross to Newcastle, a distance of 268 miles, in 3hr 57min, a record for the journey. The highest speed rt 'hed was 88i miles an hour. The locomotive was of the Pacific type, which is in genera! use. The company’s service train was held up for several minutes while the line was cleared. The North-Eastern train broke its own record on the return run to London, taking 2303 minutes and maintaining 106.6 miles an hour for 12.3 miles, the greatest distance travelled at such a speed by any locomotive. The drivers on both journeys were sexagenarians.
