PROMINENT MAORI DEAD.

Per Press Association. GISBORNE. This Day. The. death has occurred of Meri Woodbine Johnson, 81 years of age, widow of Mr James Woodbine Johnson, formerly a well-known pioneer Poverty Bay farmer. Mrs Johnson was a daughter of a prominent Maori of the Ngatikahungunu tribe and the mother of Lady Pomare. She was greatly respected throughout her life by pakeha settlers and was a keen church woman and sports patroness.
