FINE OF £SO.

Sequel to Police Raid in Temuka. (Special to the “ Star.”) TEMUKA, This Day. In the Temuka Magistrate’s Court yesterday, Thomas C. Smith (Mr L. M. Inglis), charged with keeping a common gaming house, pleaded guilty. Detective L. Studholme, who prosecuted, said that, in company with another police officer, he executed a raid on accused’s premises, where a large amount of betting material was found, showing that a good business was being done on race days. Accused stated that he was acting as an agent for one Walter Hulston, who had been fined for a similar offence some time ago and had left the town. Accused was convicted and fined £SO and costs. Two weeks were allowed in which to find the money, in default two months’ imprisonment.
