ROWING.

Training of Eight-oar Crew at Akaroa Urged. That the Canterbury representative crew should train on Akaroa Harbour was a suggestion made by the Akaroa Boating Club in a letter read at a meeting of the Canterbury Rowing Association last night. The association referred the question to the selectors and the boat committee for a report. , There were present at the meeting. Messrs P. D. Kesteven (president), R. E. Nightingale, E. S. Velvin, A. K. Woodhani, C. A. Stiles, A. T. Evans, J. B. Taylor, C. R. Hervey, J. H. Williams, W. Miles, A. A. Sutherland, W. Q. A tack, F. L. Booth and R. J. Hobbs (honorary secretary). . The Kawatiri Rowing Club (Westport) applied for a transfer of its affiliation from the Canterbury Association to the Marlborough Association at the end of this season, in view of easier transport to Picton and Nelson. The meeting decided to offer no objection to the transfer. No action was taken upon reception of a letter from the Union Club recommending that the status of rowers be not affected by regattas at which the races were of under three-quarters of a mile. The club was of opinion that regattas held over a short course and rowed in heats, as at Kaiapoi, were not a genuine test of an oarsman’s ability and did not warrant the loss of status. Regatta at Redcliffs.
