home, his time being 43min 53sec. In a thrilling finish he beat the Oxford captain on the tape.

R. M. Barrer, who has competed with distinction for Cambridge in interUniversity cross-country champion ships, was a Canterbury University College long distance champion of three years ago. He won several Canterbury provincial titles, and held his University record for three miles. Barrer entered Clare College. Cam bridge, on an 1851 Exhibition science scholarship.
