CASE ADJOURNED.
Counsel Says Motor-cyclist Was Sober. HEAD INJURY RECALLED. A defence that he was suffering from the results of an accident and not the effects of liquor was entered by counsel for Ronald Alfred Jorgensen, of Osborne Street, a labourer, aged 25 years, who was charged in the Police Court this -morning with being found in charge of a motor-cycle while intoxicated. A remand was granted until February 21, on the application of Mr Sargent, who pleaded not guilty on behalf of Jorgensen. Bail was allowed, in the sum of £25 with one surety of £25. Mr Sargent said that the accused had had an accident 12 months before in which he fractured his skull. On Sat urday night he had a slight accident and the effect of that was such tha* the police had drawn a wrong inference from the man’s conduct. Jorgensen had had only a slight amount of liquor on that night. Sub-Inspector Mac Lean said that at 7.15 p.m. on Saturday Dr R. F*. Bakewell, Sumner, had been called to what was supposed to be an acci lent on Scarborough Rbad. He found Jorgensen in the gutter by his motor-cycle When the doctor examined him, Jorgensen became aggressive and abusive. He was later examined by a second doctor at the police station, and found to be unfit to drive. Dr Bakewell, in evidence said that the accused was under the influence of liquor when he examined him. Mr Sargent asked for time in order to call witnesses on Jorgensen’s behalf.
