STAVISKY’S WIDOW.

Impersonation Alleged at Function at Stresa. PARIS, January 12Are there two Mme. Staviskys—one of them the real Mme. Stavisky. who has been in prison for ten months on • a charge of receiving money derived ! from her husband’s swindles, and the ; other a woman who impersonated her • when Stavisky was entertaining states- > men at Stresa. on the Italian lakes? This suggestion was put forward last night by the real Mme. Stavisky to members of the Parliamentary Commission inquiring into the Stavisky scandal. She insisted that the woman who accompanied her husband on trips to Stresa and dined with influential Ministers was not herself. Mme. Stavisky complains that she is being made a scapegoat for the other woman, who is free and has never been interrogated because she enjoys the protection of a former Prime Minister. “ L’Echo de Paris ” declares that the former Prime Minister is M. Chautemps. “Le Jour ” goes a step farther and says that the other woman was Suzanne Avril, Staviskv’s mistress. Photograps of Mme. Arlette Stavisky and of Suzanne Avril, which are reproduced by “ Le Jour” to-day, show a distinct resemblance between the 'two.
