The weather was fine but the track was comparatively slow. : Arachne won the Oakleigh Plate bril- ■ liantly, establishing a weight-carrying record for a three-year-old. Winooka, having his second race since he returned from America, performed notably in carrying 1 Ost 51b into second place. The following are the principal results : FEDERAL HANDICAP. Badger) 3 Twelve horses started, including Lady Primrose and Homer. Homer did not get away well and just as he was beginning to make up ground, near the home turn, he was twice squeezed. He was fourth last entering the straight, but he finished fourth. Solfast won by half a head, with the third horse two lengths and a half away. Time—lmin ljsec. Robinson’s b f, by Corban—Welkin Queen, 3yrs, 8.11 (Davidson) 1 WINOOKA, Messrs M’Donald and Matthews’s b h Winooka, by Windbag—Kanooka, 6yrs, 10.5 (Pike) 2 bag—Kanooka, 6yrs, 10.5 (Pike) 2 HEROS, Mrs L. R. Buxton’s b g, by Heroic—Loversland, 6yrs, 9.0 (Dempsey) 3 Arachne was fifth away, but quickly ran to the front and was never trouble to win by two lengths and a half. Winooka was in the middle of the field at the start, but quickly ran up, being behind Arachne and Silver King when the field settled down. He finished well under his heavy weight, beating Heros by half a neck for second place. Arannah was eighth, Sir John twelfth and First Money last. Time—lmin Osec. ST GEORGE STAKES, Of 750 sovs. Weight for age, with penalties and alloAvances. One mile and a furlong. FARNDALE, Messrs Hunter and Fell’s b c, by Curialis—All Chatter, 3yrs. 7.7 (H. Badger) .... 1 HALL MARK, Mr C. B. Kellow’s ch h, by Heroic—Herowinkie, 4yrs, 9.10 (Dempsey) 2 THEO, Mr E. Moss’s b c, by Limond —Mirabelle 11, 3yrs, 8.13 (M’Carten) 3 Latrobe and Allenby also started. Won by a length and a quarter, with the third horse a length away. Colossical, Chief Light and Cape Lilock were unplaced in the Salisbury Welter Handicap. Kider Suspended. MELBOURNE, February 17. S. Davidson, the rider of Arachne in the Oakleigh Plate, was suspended for two months for crossing too sharply after the start and interfering with several horses, including Winooka, The Marne, Titanium and Calula King.
