FILM SOCIETY.
Work During the Year Reviewed. Difficulties in arranging film supplies which had only recently been cleared away were met during the year, states the report of the Christchurch Film Society, which will be presented at the first annual meeting to be held on Feb ruary 27. Films of varying quality had been shown and while the attendances had bee nexcellent, the com mittee frankly admitted that the number of films above the average which had been screened was very smalt. Legislative recognition of Film societies had been accorded and a number of difficulties previously met with had disappeared. A conference of New Zealand film societies had been held last November and as a result a uniform policy and purchasing agreement would be evolved. The following films were avaiable to the societyKamerad schaft,” “ Atlantide,” “ Sous les Toits de Paris ” and “ Avalanche.” The difficulty, however, was one of finance Each film would cost, on an average £75, but a deadlock had arisen in that the society was able purchase if the New Zealand societies had the monev. All the societies stater that thev could getmembers if they could get fi’ms. To get over the difficulty, one Hastings resident had undertaken to purchase one film outright and to continue purchasing as he recouped himself from the proceeds of the previous films. The report points out that it might be possible to make similar arrangement - * elsewhere.
