STARTLING CLAIMS.

Doctor’s Amazing Cures by Inoculation. ENTIRELY NEW METHODS. ART LING claims for a new development in the method of inoculation were made by a Harley Street physician in a speech to ophthalmic opticians in London recently. It would he said:—Give sight to the blind. Reduce maternal mortality by ninety per cent. End the scourge of tuberculosis by preventive inoculation at birth. Completely cure creeping paralysis, sleepy sickness, the common cold, and a host of other illnesses which had so far defied the efforts of medical science. The speaker was Dr W. Mervyn Crofton. formerly Professor of Special Pathology at University College, Dublin. He described the method of therapeutic immunisation, and declared that the human body could make the anidote to its own ills, says the “ Daily Express.” “ An inoculation made from the patient’s own microbe,” he said, “ can virtually assure recovery, however acute the disease, except in very few cases. " Yo U w iu be told by my fellows that I claim too much Yet I tell you that these things have actually been done. “ This method of therapeutic immunisation revolutionises medicine, turning it from a method of relieving symptoms to a precise science of cure. It will involve such survival that the nations of the world will have ‘to begin to set their houses in order and agree on the population that each nation can afford to support. Cures Claimed. Among the examples of cures claimed by Dr Crofton were: A healthy old man of ninety-four who, when eighty, was given up as a hopeless case of secondary cancer of the liver. A woman cancer victim who had been given up as hopeless after three operations. An old nurse, crippled for forty years with chronic rheumatism, now a fine vigorous old woman of seventy-nine, straight and without pain. Hopeless cases of creeping paralysis now walking about with confidence. A maternal case with the patient running a temperature of 107. Now she is alive and well. Cases of advanced bone and lung tuberculosis that had only been given a few months to live now restored to perfect health. Cases of hopelessly blind now able to read small print. Dr Crofton said that the grave reproach against gynecology made by Mr Baldwin recently could now be removed. Quite 90 per cent of the deaths from sepsis in childbirth were unnecessary. I can assure you,” he continued, “ that when prejudice is overcome preventive inoculation of babies and calves will rid the world of 90 per cent of tuberculosis.

“ I can also give my profession a precise and successful treatment of that dreadful disease, sleepy sickness. No Chronic .Colds. “ There is no necessity for any cold to become chronic, and no necessity for such a disease as chronic bronchitis. “ Premature death from pneumonia and heart disease will disappear. There will be no crippling from rheumatism. “By the bacteriological technique we use the microbial causes of all the zymotic (germ contagion) diseases such as smallpox, measles, and chickenpox have been discovered. “ It is now possible to produce a dead inoculation for their prevention in the same way as Sir Almroth Wright and his colleagues have produced such remarkable results in the prevention of typhoid.” Dr Crofton startled his hearers by stating that the method of immunisation gave virtually complete control over eye disease. “ Mr Tranter, who is one of you and who is here to-night,” he said, “ asked me many months ago if there was any method that could cure early or more moderately established cataract. Sight Restored. “ * Yes,’ I said. ‘ by finding the microbes responsible for these lesions and inoculating the patient with antigens (vaccines). In this way all these diseases can be cured.’ “It has enabled me to cure those totally blind from lesions of their brains, to clear up and restore a measure of sight to those blind from optic nerve lesions, and to restore to sensitiveness areas of retina supposedly hopelessly destroyed from glaucoma. “ My gallant ally. Dr Brady, of Harley Street, and I have established the Antigen Laboratory, where it is open to any doctor to investigate our methods. He can have made for him the material we use ourselves. “ This method, when it is universally practised, will take away the reproach to medicine which can only now claim to relieve and not to cure.”
