Gladstone’s Shilling Bet.

Over 100 j’ears ago an Eton boy kept a list of his expenses in a small pocket account book. Here are some of the entries: October s—To seeing Wild Beasts at Windsor, Is. November B—Gave to one Barton, a diseased young man from Liverpool, Is 6d. November 28 —A bet. Is. The boy’s name was William Ewart Gladstone, the great Liberal statesman of the Victorian era His book is one of the many interesting historical exhibits in the London Museum, which covers almost every aspect of London life from the earliest times to the present day
