Visitor* From Overseas Open Tour at Hawera. RECORD JAVELIN THROW. Per Press Association. NEW PLYMOUTH, February I*. The British and Finnish athletes began their New Zealand tour at Hawera to-night, a feature being a record javelin throw by Sippala of 212 ft 4in. Craske won the mile easily in 4min 24 4-ssec, and Murdock the furlong in 24 4-ssec. Powell ran the half-mile in lrnln 58 4-ssec, but found the handicaps too long. Black (New Plymouth) hent Murdock in the 100yds and Rampling in the quarter-mile, in 10 l-ssec and 51 2-5 sec. In the difficult night light Peraaplo Jumped 6ft 4in easily, Just failing at 6ft s|in; ________ Programme for Tuesday. The programme for next Tuesday's athletic meeting at Lancaster Park is as follows: —Men: 50yds, 300yds, 880yds, one mile, 220yds hurdles. Javelin throw and hor, step and jump. Junior: 440yds. Women, 50yds and 150yds. The meeting will begin at 6 p.m.
