Members were reminded that the next meeting would be quarter night, when the first nomination of officers and the election of a standing committee will take place. In responding to the welcome Brother Valentine. P.G.M., spoke at length on the history of the Order, and exhibited several books ■which showed the charges in their original form. North Canterbury Encampment, No. 3 Patriarch H. A. Tullett presided over the meeting, and motions of sympathy were extended to Patriarch Froggett and the

Star of Opawa—The Noble Grand (Brother S. Young) presided over a large attendance, and one new member was initiated. Brother J. Archer (District Deputy Grand Master) was welcomed. and installed Brother S. Young, P.G., as Noble Grand, and Brother H. H. Gibbons as recording secretary. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to Brothers J. Archer, D.D.G.M., Valentine, P.8.M., and Meadows, P. 8., for their attendance. 1.0. R. Pride of Christchurch—The Chief Ruler (Brother L. Brown) presided, and a motion of sympathy was passed to the relatives and friends of the late Brother W. K. Jennings. One new candidate was initiated and welcomed by the Chief Ruler. The members of the Tent were invited to the combined juvenile picnic to be held in the Botanic Gardens on Saturday, February 16. It was decided to support the Provincial Council both financially and otherwise in their suggestions for the centenary celebrations to be held this year. It was decided to invite the Tawera and Whakaora juveniles to the next meeting on February 18. Games were enjoyed during the social part of the meeting. TJ.A.O.D. Ivy of Linwood Lodge—The ArchDruid (Brother C. H. Cotton) presided and welcomed the District President (Brother C. Percy, No. 7 District). A motion of sympathy was passed to Brother H. Meredith and relatives in the death of his mother. An invitation was accepted to attend the Lily of Richmond Lodge on February 27, the occasion being a presentation to P.D.P. Brother H. G. Lake. Dr F. Birkinshaw was added to the lodge medical officers’ list. Brother Percy, A.D., reported on the special meeting of the U.F.S. Dispensary Board, and Brother F. Legge, P A on the meeting of the U.F.S. Benevolent Association. Brother Harrington (Superintendent of the Juvenile Lodge) report-

ed on the arrangements for the lodge visit to Timaru on February 17. Adult members are invited, and the train will leave Christchurch at 8 a.m. Brothers Pratt, P.D.P., and Burrows, P.A., were accorded -a welcome, and responded to the vote of thanks. 1.0.0. T. Lily of Sydenham Juvenile Temple.— Sister J. Edwards, Chief Templar, presided, and one new member was initiated, and one proposed. The General Superintendent of Juvenile Work (Brother F. C. Pace, Auckland) and Sisters Mrs and Miss G. Pace, were introduced by Brother A. Rennie, P.G.S.J.W. The superintendent, Sister J. Brayne, welcomed the visitors, and Brother Pace addressed the Temple on the work of the Juvenile Department, and thanked Sister Brayne on behalf of the Grand Lodge for the excellent work she was doing in Christchurch. Brother H. O. Ford, Superintendent Sumner Pride, also spoke. Replies were made on behalf of the Temple by Sister Brayne and Brother A. Rennie. At the close of the address cheers were given for Sister and Brother Pace. Brother W. Sivertson (Professor Montigue) entertained members with mirth and magic, for which he was accorded a vote of thanks. Junior Swimming Carnival.—The junior lodges of the North Canterbury and Lyttelton districts, M.U.,1.0.0.F„ met last Saturday to carry out a swimming carnival, which marks the fifth annual swimming contest between the male junior lodges of Canterbury. Sixty competitors took part in the carnival, which was held in the Canterbury Frozen Meat Company's bath, Belfast, and throughout the afternoon the very large crowd of spectators witnessed some thrilling finishes in aIL events. The championship cup, kindly donated by Brother G. C. Taylor, which is for annual competition, was won by the City of Norwich Junior Lodge (Lyttelton), with 26 points, Volunteer Junior Lodge (Sydenham) being runners-up, 15 points. The Challenge Cup, which has previously been held by Lyttelton three times and Papanui once, was won by the Volunteer Junior Lodge with 48 points, with Lyttelton 45 points, Papanui 19 points, and Kaiapoi 5 points. Loyal Past Grands’ Lodge No. 2. Brother P. Prestidge. worthy president, presided over a well-attended meeting at Sheffield. Brother W. J. Tenle, FVW.P., brought forward various items nile lodges, a lengthy paper on this project being read, and fully discussed. One candidate of Coleridge Lodge received the Past Officers’ Degree. The following nominations of office for the ensuing twelve months were received: — Worthy President. Brother W. E. Rodgers, P.G.: Worthy Vice-President, Brothers W. D. Boyes. A. J. King, E. C. Hunt, W. M’Pherson. J. S. M’Hugh and H. M. Prestidge, P.O.’s; secretary. Brother C. Henderson, P.G. The Worthy President, upon closing, stated that the election of officers would take place at next, meeting at Glentunnel on March 2 and that he hoped to have the District Conference agenda paper to hand for consideration. Loyal Coleridge Lodge.—Brother N. Hunt, N.G., presided over the meeting held at Glentunnel. The attendance of members is improving now harvest operations are nearly finished. The members were invited to attend a church parade of Loyal Kaiapoi Lodge on February 24. The much discussed District Widows’ and Orphans’ Fund, which was intended to be nut forward for the coming District Conference, was allowed to lapse in its final stages in order that more information may be obtained upon its workable operations. Brother W. J. Teale, P.G. and F.S., was nominated for the District Committee of Management and District Deputy<'il'=vnd Master.
