THE 1935 DERBY.

Past Victors Will Be Well Represented. TRAINER’S EIGHT CANDIDATES. When the last mail left England 162 horses remained in the Derby to be run at Epsom on Wednesday. Ju ~ 5. The nominations numbered Twenty-nine of those horses still eligible to run won 55 races as juveniles. Horses who won three or more races were Gynerium, Maltravers, Vermeil II Walter Marten, Bahram, Theft ana Ha’iran. Bahram is the only one unbTaest- winners Fie well represented, Gainsborough (War Derby), by Bobsleigh: Artistry, Blue Pencil. Emborough, Gantry, J. Smit.f, Eppie Adair colt, Ben Marshall and Oceana colt, Hyperion won the Derby for Gainsborough in 1933. Trigo is represented by Chirgwin, Dunhurst and Glentrigo. Sansovino by Contuscnpt, Ganba.di, Home Spun, Sansofine and Strdar AKb£Coronach by Queen of Mirth colt. Corrabul, Remorse, West Highland and Plymouth Sound. _ . , Felstead by Eton Blue, Field Trial, F'elland and Celiba colt. Spion Kop by Koppernigk. Papyrus by Pampas and Petit Bleu. Manna by Popcorn, Revelation lobulation, Manatee, Santonn and Spanby Vermeil II and WoodSt< Blandford has Puits d’Amonr (France), Bahram, Chivalry, -Duke Tohn, Hindoo Holiday and Desert Cloud to represent him. Frank Butters, with Alykhan, Banram Hairan, Hindoo Holiday, Vermeil II Sirdar Akbar, Maltravers and Powerful Prince, holds the strongest hand. The first six are the property of the Aga Khan. Next come J. Lawson, with Dungaree, Field Trial, Flash Bye, Leifhon Tor colt, Plymouth Sound, and Zingaro. Fred Darling has Ben Marshall, Blue Pencil, Fair Trial, Harmony Hall. Law Breaker and The Recruit. J. Jarvis has Eton Blue, Garibaldi, Baringo, Petit Bleu, Rosecrag, Koppernigk, Happi and Sea Bequest. French horses holding the liability include Bao Dai (Flamingo), Ipe (Town Guard), Peut-etre (Fiterari), Puits d’Amour (Blandford), Chasse Neige (Bubbles), Maharajah (Belfonds) and Skiff (Beifonds). Bao Dai was rated in the French Free Handicap to be lib better than Ipe, and from 21b to 121 b better than Peut-etre, Chasse Neige, Lucullus and Puits d’Amour.

WHAREROA HANDICAP, of 125 sovs. Eight furlongs and a half. 3.3—GLENVANE, S.O (Broughton) . . 1 2- MIDTAN, 8.2 (R. Reed) 2 4- —CHIEF MARIONETTE, 8.1 (B. Morris) 3 1-1 Pomp 9.1 and 5-5 Diagano 8.0 also started. Won by a head, two lengths between second and third. Time—lmin 47 1-5 SG Pomp was first out from Glenvane, Chief Marionette, Midian and Diagano. When the home turn was reached Pomp was done with and Glenvane shot out to the front. Although Midian put in a good run he failed to get up in time and was beaten by a head. Diagano Avas fourth. WAIPAPA HACK HANDICAP, of 100 sovs. Seven furlongs. 2- —ONEWHETU, 9.0 (G. Dulieu) .. 3 1-1 Dorado 8.13, 4-4 Prince Reno B.S, 5- inveresk 8.3, 7-5 True Measure 7.12, 9-9 Hard Times 7.11 and S-8 Cloudy Bay 7.11 also started. Won by half a length, half a length between second and third. Time—lmin 28 l-ssec.

Silver Scorn Nearing Her Best. United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. SYDNEY. February 13. The races at Victoria Park to-day Avere marred by shoAA'ery Aveather. A number of good horses were engaged. Results:— FLYING HANDICAP—First Division: Closing Time. 9.7 (Bartle) I; Rogilla, 9.11 (Pratt) 2: Silver Scorn. 8.12 (Shelton) and Mitebite, 7.0 (Tyler), dead heat, 3. Nine started, including Jacko and Martian Chief. Closing Time jumped out Avell. Rogilla played up at the barrier and was sloav away, but made up much lost ground. Closing Time, however, finished strongly to win by two and a half lengths, with the dead heating horses four lengths away. Martian Chief was seventh. Time—lmin 23Jsec. Rogilla and SilA’er Scorn look exceptionally well. VICTORIA PARK HANDICAP —Starlike. 6.7 (Ward) 1: Antique. 7.0 (Tyler) 2; King March, 9.0 (Bartle) 3. Six started. Won by a head, two and a halt lengths between second and third. Time—2min 173 sec.

Araunah in Winning Form.

MELBOURNE, February 13. At the Epsom races to-day. the Epsom Plate resulted: Araunah. 9.5 (Box) 1: Yellowstead, 8.2 (Badger) 2; Rondeletta. 7.8 (Tomison) 3. Ton started. Sir Simper and First Money Avere scratched. Won by a length, two lengths between second and third. Time—lmin 13fsec. In the Welter Mile, Chief Light finished third. In (he Epsom Purse, Golden Horn Avas unplaced.
