Mr F. Jarman (Wellington) is a guest at the Royal Hotel. Mr A. H. Anthony left last evening for Wellington. The Hon W. Hayward, M.L.C., arrived from Wellington this morning. Bishop White, Bishop Brodie and Monsignor Morkane returned from; Wellington this morning. Dr B. W. Pearcy, Lincoln Road, has returned from a short holiday in the north. Messrs Frank Chapman (Auckland) and J. H. Bevan (Sydney) are registered at Warner’s Hotel. Messrs G. Gerandi (Timaru), E. K. Tomlinson (Nelson) and A. S. Onley (Auckland) are registered at the Clarendon Hotel. Mr J. Sinclair, of Pahiatua, who nas been attending the refresher course at Wigram Aerodrome, returned to rhe north last evening. Mr H. G. Lane arrived yesterday from the north to take charge of Mayfair Theatre to be opened shortly in Worcester Street for Amalgamated Theatres, Ltd. Mr F. W. Freeman, a member of the Waimakariri River Trust, who has been suffering through illness, was welcomed back at a meeting of the trust yesterday afternoon. Mr W. A. Smith, of Christchurch, a member of the Council of the New Zealand Society of Accountants, will leave this evening for Auckland to attend the third annual convention of the society. A motion of sympathy with Mr J. S. Barnett in the death of his brother, the late Mr M. F. Barnett, was passed at last night’s meeting of the Canterbury School Committees’ Association. Mr T. Yamamoto, a Japanese business man with headquarters in Sydney, is at present visiting Christchurch, and is staving at the United Service Hotel. He will leave for Dunedin in three days’ time. The Rev F. J. Daynes, who has been in charge of the Anglican parish of Richmond and Appleby for the past thirteen years, has been appointed by the Bishop of Nelson to be vicar at Amuri, North Canterbury. His duties will commence on March 1. Mr J. S. Barnett and the assistant city engineer, Mr E. Somers, left *ast evening for Wellington. They will meet the Mayor, Mr D. G. Sullivan, M.P., and confer with the Unemployment Board on council unemployment matters. Mr Barnett and Mr Somers will return on Saturday. A meeting of members of the Parliamentary Press Gallery was held yesterday afternoon, when Mr H. I. Forde (“ Evening Post ”) was elected chairman to replace Mr C. Campbell, who has joined the staff of the “ Evening Post.” Mr L. Jillett (" New Zealand Herald ”) was elected vice-chairman. Mr C. E. Ferris, formerly headmaster of Dunelm School, Christchurch, has been appointed by the Bishop of Nelson to the temporary charge of the Maori Mission station at Okoha, Pelorus Sound, where he has taken up his duties as lay church worker and schoolmaster for the time being. Mr John Anderson, who w r ill leave for a trip to Great Britain to-day. was met by the employees of Andersons, Ltd., last evening, and was presented w r ith a travelling rug and a thermos flask. Mr F. N. Lawrence, the secretary, who made the present.ation. spoke of the regard in which Mr Anderson was held, and wished him a good trip. Messrs S. S. Scott, P. P. M. Bevan (Auckland), E. A. Wallace, A. Kerns, M. Stohr, J. Daniels, 11. E. Napier, W. M'Donald, F. H. Whatley, D. M. Hastings (Wellington), Walter Gledhill, Cecil Marks, G. S. Applegate (Sydney). J- H. Duncan (Dunedin), E. N. Gordon (Lower Hutt), A. L. Slobom (London) and Will Parker (Dundee, Scotland) are registered at the United Service Hotel. A popular member of the Legislative Department for thirty-five years, Mr Maurice Gillon has been appointed supervisor of Hansard, the Parliamentary publication which records the speeches of members of the Legislature. Mr Gillon, who has been actingsupervisor during the past two years and a half, is a son of the late Mr E. T. Gillon, a former editor of the “ Evening Post.”
