REMAND GRANTED.
Hawker to Appear at Auckland.
" I absolutely deny the fact that I have ever been in Auckland, and as they are so confident, let them remand me to Auckland,” said William James M’Cain, a hawker and canvasser, 50 years of age, of Madras Street, to Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court this morning. M’Cain was charged with stealing socks and towels and other goods valued at £ll, the property of Alfred Shennen, of Auckland. “ They will only have to bring me back from Auckland again,” said the accused. 44 No, they won’t. If you are discharged in Auckland you will have to find your own way back again,” said the Magistrate. On the accussd agreeing to take the risk of being discharged in Auckland, he was remanded to appear there on Friday, Sub-Inspector Mac Lean, who had previously asked for a remand so that inquiries might be made, agreeing to this course.
