FATALLY INJURED.
Man Crushed by Large Rimu Log. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, January 21. / Archibald G. Drummond, fifty-five, a married man, was fatally injured at Smvthe Bros, and Bowyers’ sawmill at Arohana, twenty-five miles from Te Awamutu, this morning. The man was unloading a large rimu log off a truck on to the mill skids when the log slipped, and before Drummond could jump clear it crushed him. Death was instantaneous. Drummond leaves a widow and son. Farmer Injured. (Special to the “ Star.”) ASHBURTON, January 21. Mr Percy Henry Read, a married farmer, aged thirty-eight, residing at Eiffel ton, had his left foot caught in the drum of a header harvester this morning. He was admitted to the County Hospital, where it was found necessary to amputate the lower leg. Girl Injures Nose. A deep wound in the nose was sustained by Jean Cameron, fifteen years of age, of Temuka, who slipped when playing on the lawn of a friend’s home in Gloucester Street last evening. In her fall the girl struck her nose on the edge of a concrete path. She was taken to the Christchurch Hospital and treated at the outpatients’ department.
