An unofficial but spontaneous and hearty tribute was paid to the popularity of the Duke of Gloucester yesterday while he was on his way down Ferry Road to Lancaster Park. As the Royal party approached the Alexandra Hall it was seen that the building was brightly decorated in Maori fashion. A dance had been in progress, and as the procession of cars approached the dancers crowded out of the building and packed the footpath. Near the hall the cars slowed down, and when they came abreast of the crowd hundreds of carnival streamers shot into the air. Over 300 flags were distributed by Mr R. H. Stillwell and these were waved as the Duke passed.
