Mr A. T. Donnelly returned to Christchurch from the North Island this morning. Mr N. A. Wallis, of Greymouth. returned by the Maunganul yesterday from a holiday visit to Sydney. Messrs P. B. Bushel! (London) and j J. Batchelor (Wellington) are guests at Warner’s Hotel. i Messrs J. C. Young (Palmerston j North), W. A. Phillips (Hamilton) and I W. Duff (Wellington) are staying at ; the Clarendon Hotel. 1 Mr L. Mangham, ground engineer to ; the Manawatu Aero Club, arrived ar j Wigram Aerodrome yesterday with a passenger in his Monocoupe machine. ! Mr F. D. Sargent met with a slight i accident yesterday and was removed j to Lewisham Hospital, where, on medical advice, he is resting for a few I days. Mr A. G. Robertson, of the Oamaru staff of the Union Steam Ship Company. who has been on holiday in Sydney, returned by the Maunganui I yesterday. An expression of the sympathy of the Senate of the New Zealand Uni versity with Mr F. 11. Bakewell. a Wellington member, in his illness, was sent by telegram from the Senate’s meeting yesterday. Subject to the approval of the Minister, the new medical superintendent of Palmerston North Public Hospital will be Dr J. H. North, resident surgical officer and tutor at Dunedin Hospital. A motion of sympathy with the relatives of the late Professor J. Macmillan Brown, who at the time of his death was Chancellor of the University of New Zealand, was passed by the Tramway Board at its meeting yesterday. Messrs J. A. Payne, E. C. Coni (Wellington), E. And rson (Auckland), A. Osborne, C. R. Ramsay (Sydney), 0. B. Humphreys (Cambridge, England). G. G. Bradley (London) and P. Farvacque (France), are staying at the United Service Hotel. Pastor A. G. Stewart, vice-president of the Australasian Seventh Day Adventists’ 'Union Conference, and Mr J. H. Kemp, the union’s publishing representative, arrived in Christchurch today to attend the South Island conference of Seventh Day Adventists, which will open at the Addington Showgrounds to-morrow. Guests at the New City Hotel include Messrs J. D. M’Murray (Dumbarton, Scotland), A. Elvish ( Melbourne), R. Sanders (Auckland), Harold Sutton and K. Bouchot (Invercargill), P. E. Giller (Mossburn), J. Dickier, J. A. Henderson, W. H. Henderson, C. Osborne, R. Thompson, and F. S. Booth (Dunedin), and 11. M’Donald (Ashburton). The new manager for New Zealand of the Colonial Mutual Life Assurance Society, Ltd., (Mr R. B. Ashe), accompanied by his wife and two young sons, arrived at Wellington yesterday by the Maunganui from Sydney. Mr Ashe, whose headquarters will be in • j Wellington, succeeds Mr A. H.
