WOOL SALES.

Sydney Prices Favour Sellers. SYDNEY, January 8. At the wool sales to-day 11,534 bales were offered and 10,996 sold, while 1107 bales were sold privately. All the best features of the previous day’s sale were maintained to-day. Values generally continued to rule in sellers’ favour. Bidding was brisk from all quarters and satisfactory clearances were effected. Greasy merino brought to 18d. Advice has been received here that the German Government has given permission for a private compensatory transaction of Australian wool in exchange for German goods to the value cf 3.000,000 reichmarks, approximately £150,000 Wool Available for Next London Sale. (Received January 9. 1 p.m.) LONDON. January 8. Wool available for the sales on January 15 amounts to 196.600 bales, including new arrivals of 66.000 Australian and 16,500 New Zealand. It is expected that 162,000 bales will be catalogued. Auckland Clips. (Special to the “Star.') AUCKLAND, This Dav. Although there is still a fortnight before the holding of the second Auck land wool sale of the season, indica lions suggest that the wool is in verv good average condition and should not suffer on the score of quality. Since the first sale in November, active shearing all over the province has brouglv in fresh clips at a steady pace. There is evidence of a large quan titv of wool being held over until the third sale, irrespective of market prospects at the present time. This, added to whatever may be passed at the coming Auckland sale, will help to throw large quantities on to the marke* at the end of March, when the clearing up sale will take place. A limit of 25.000 bales has been set for the second sale, and enough wool , has accumulated in brokers’ stores for the closing of the catalogue to be only a matter of a day or two now.
