CHRISTMAS AT SEA.

Festivities on Board the Maui Pomare. The Government motor vessel Maui Pomare arrived at Lyttelton last evening from Apia and Niue Island with twenty-two passengers and a full cargo of bananas. The only bad w*eather experienced on the return trip was in crossing Cook Strait on Monday- night, when the vessel was delayed for about an hour. Christmas and New Vear were celebrated at sea. Christmas dinner was served on the way to Apia. The dining saloon was decorated appropriately and Father Christmas distributed presents among the passengers and members of the ship’s crew. In addition there was carolling, choir contests and dancing. On Boxing Day a swimming pool was rigged up in ‘the well-deck and sw-im-ming w-as enjoyed until a late hour. The arrangements for the tour were in the hands of the chief officer, Mr A. V. Holder. The passenger list w-as as follow-s: Mesdames H. W. Lawton and J. M’Cly--mont. Misses D. E. Evans, E.
