FRANCO-ITALIAN PACT.

Interest of Britain in Negotiations. British Official Wireless. (Received January 3. 12.15 p.m.) RUGBY, January 2. The negotiations between France and Italy for sponsoring a multilateral pact guaranteeing the integrity of Austria have been actively continuing. The news of M. Laval’s projected visit to Rome has been received in London with special satisfaction, as it is taken as indicating the probability of the successful outcome of the Franco-Italian negotiations, in which the British Government has been taking an active interest. The European questions under discussion between Paris and Rome were the subject of conversation between Sir John Sim'on and the French Premier, M. Pierre Flandin, and the Foreign Minister during Sir John’s brief stay in Paris on the way from London to the Riviera, where he is at present on holiday. The British Foreign Secretary has since kept in close touch with the French and Italian Governments.
