LAWN TENNIS.
Hard-fought Senior Matches. CANT EXTENDS BARNETT. Though the draw for the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association’s senior competition again matched teams somewhat unevenly, and there was a wide difference in the team scores, nevertheless the standard of play was on a high level, and many of the games were interesting to watch. This interest was mainly in the displays of lowerranked players against the top-class men, and it contained some surprises. Canterbury College continued their winning way against Lin wood, collecting all the singles. Most important of the games in this match was the meeting of H. A. Barnett and A. R. Cant. Cant was in good form, and much steadier than has been usual lately. He stroking well and finding the corners nicely. There was little margin between the players at any stage and rallies were long and well-fought. Though the game was mainly a backline one each player occasionally claimed winners from surprise excursions to the net. Barnett gained in steadiness as play progressed and won, 6-4, 1-6, 6-4.
