At a meeting of the Toowoomba Fire Brigade Board it was resolved to forward an adequate apology to the Duke of Gloucester regarding the smoking incident, at the Toowoomba Ball, when a fireman asked his Royal Highness to put out his cigarette. It was officially explained that the fireman had orders not to permit smoking in the hall.
