Honorary Librarians Are Elected. The bi-month I v meeting of the committee of the Sumner Public Library was held in the library on Thursday evening l : present —Mr H. L. Wiggins (chairman i. Mesdames W. H. Nicholson, Douglas-Smith, H. C. Jones. A. Murdoch and A. Graham. Misses K. Selby and M. A. Bain, and Mr G. F. Allen. A resolution of sympathy with Mrs W. H. Brown in the death of her husband was carried, and it was decided to Place on record the appreciation of the committee lor the good work done to assist the library by the late Mr W. IT. Brown. The chairman of the committee. Mr C. 1. Denham, wrote advising the committee that he had forwarded to the Borough Council his resignation as mittee. It was decided to write to Mr Denham pointing out that he had been elected chairman of the committee by the subscribers at the annual meeting. Mesdames H. K. Crawshaw and BellSyers were elected honorary librarians. A report from the librarians showed that several of the subscribers were behind with their dues and with the return of their books. Tt was decided to instruct the secretary to write to these members. The meeting decided to instruct the honorary librarians strictly to enforce the rule relating to the payment. of subscriptions in advance. The honorary librarians were elected a classification committee, with Mrs W. IT. Nicholson as convener, the first meeting to be bold on Monday next. The chairman was deputed to interview the treasurer, and also to express the committee’s appreciation of some of the improvements recently effected. The statement of receipts showed subscriptions to date £3l 13s lOd. extras £6 13s -Id. and sales Os lid. The balance at the bank was £22 8s Bd, and the cash in hand £1 7s 6d.
