LIFE SAVING CLUB.
Beach Patrol to Be Appointed at Sumner. Mr S. K. Bassett presided over a meeting of the executive of the Sumner Life Saving Club on Thursday evening. The appointment of a beach patrol was fully discussed, and it was decided to advertise in to-day’s papers for a suitable man to fill the position from December 17. It was stated that at present the club had sufficient funds to pay a patrol-man for one month, and unless further public support was forthcoming, his services would have to be terminated at that dale. It was agreed that the president. (Mr S. K. Bassett) should approach the Mayor (Mr W. H. Xicholson) with a view to making some arrangements for a further appeal. It was decided to draw up a roster, so as to ensure the presence of a full team on the beach during the week-ends. Twelve new members were elected. Reference was made to the annual visit of the St Clair Club, Dunedin. It was anticipated that the visit would be made at the end of January. A letter of appreciation was received from Mr .T. Crosby, enclosing a donation in recognition of the work of the club last Saturday, when he was in serious difficulties. It was reported that the church parade to be held to-morrow would be at the Presbyterian Church.
