METHVEN TOWNSHIP.

Burgesses Association Suggested. (Special to the " Star.’*) ASHBURTON, December 7. It vafi stated by Mr J. Carr, at to«ty a meeting of the Ashburton County Ccuneil. that the Methven Volunteer Fire Brigade had no funds, and was in a precarious position.

Mr J. Moore suggested that a responsible committtee should be set up in the township to act as a buffer between the council and the town. Mr Carr said he had also received requests for attention to, and formation of, footpaths in Methven. Mr Moore said it was not for the riding- members to look after the township. A burgesses’ association could give voice to the requirements. .Mr Carr said he had suggested the formation of a ratepayers' association to deal with such matters. Numerous questions were cropping up. and these cou.d be brought up by the association when necessary.

that Hie Mount Hutt Road Board dealt with business relating to thp township. The suggestion of the formation of an association was passed on to Messrs J. Carr and R. VV. Wightman.
